How to become a Motorcycle Technician
Also called: Motorcycle Mechanic
Maintains, tests and repairs the mechanical parts of motorcycles.
Main tasks
- Inspects motorcycles to identify mechanical issues
- Tests motorcycles to diagnose problems and determine necessary repairs
- Uses specialised diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot complex issues with engines, transmissions and electrical components
- Repairs or replaces faulty and worn-out mechanical parts of motorcycles
- Adjusts and tunes engines, brakes and other mechanical systems
- Performs routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, battery checks and fitting tyres
- Conducts tests post service or repair to assess motorcycle safety and roadworthiness
Ways in
- Apprenticeship: Certificate III in Motorcycle Mechanical Technology. Trade occupations are usually entered through an apprenticeship: paid work plus this qualification, typically 3 to 4 years.
- TAFE and VET: Certificate III in Motorcycle Mechanical Technology (AUR30820); Diploma of Automotive Technology (AUR50216); Certificate II in Motor Sport Technology (AUR21020); Certificate III in Motor Sport Technology (AUR30920); Certificate IV in Motor Sport Technology (AUR40320)
