How to become a Renderer
Official title: Renderer (Solid Plaster)
Also called: Solid Plasterer
Applies decorative and protective coverings of plaster, cement and similar materials to the interiors and exteriors of structures.
Main tasks
- Fixes pre-cast cornices, panel mouldings, ceiling centres and other plaster fittings
- Mixes and applies coats of plaster, cement and render to structures using trowels and levels, and smooths coats to uniform thickness
- Prepares surfaces for rendering by cleaning, removing old plaster and applying bonding agents
- Plumbs and straightens corners, angles, and wall and ceiling surfaces
- Creates decorative textures in finishing coats
- Repairs and patches damaged or deteriorated plaster and cement surfaces
Ways in
- Apprenticeship: Certificate III in Solid Plastering. Trade occupations are usually entered through an apprenticeship: paid work plus this qualification, typically 3 to 4 years.
- TAFE and VET: Certificate III in Solid Plastering (CPC31020); Certificate III in Wall and Ceiling Lining (CPC31220); Certificate II in Construction Pathways (CPC20220)
- Licence or registration: Registration or licensing may be required.
