- Laying out and moving power cables for electric shovels and draglines
- Directing haul trucks as they dump
- Clearing spillage at the head and tail of conveyors and crushers
- Cleaning mud off trucks, bulldozers and other vehicles
- Checking, changing and repairing haul truck tyres
- Inspecting, clearing and reinforcing slopes
