Operates reeling machines to reel cocoons into raw silk.
Main tasks
- Loading cocoons into the cocoon feeder and finding and straightening the silk ends
- Running reeling machines, gathering ends and forming the croissure
- Checking machines as they run, feeding cocoons, adding and joining ends
- Fixing faults in silk threads during reeling
- Changing full skeins
- Adjusting temperature and humidity in the conditioning room so small reel skeins regain moisture evenly
- Rereeling small skeins onto large reels or winding them onto bobbins as cone silk
- Making large reel skeins into hanks with skeining machines, matching colours and baling them
