How to become a Starch and Glucose Production Operator

Also called: Starch Processing Worker, Starch Sugar Production Worker
Operates washing, steeping, grinding, separating and drying equipment to turn corn, potatoes and other crops into starch, then liquefies and saccharifies it into starch sugars and by products.
Main tasks
- Operating equipment to wash raw materials and remove impurities
- Operating steeping equipment to make sulphurous acid solution, soaking corn under controlled settings and concentrating the steep water into corn steep liquor
- Operating grinding, hydrocyclone and screening equipment to separate germ, fibre, potato pulp and starch
- Operating pressing, dewatering and drying equipment to dry germ
- Operating equipment to dewater, dry and grind husk residue into fibre powder
- Purifying starch slurry with centrifuges and dewatering and drying it into commercial starch
- Operating flotation tanks to separate gluten, concentrating, dewatering and drying the protein into protein powder
- Making starch or starch slurry into a liquid and liquefying it with jet cookers
- Operating saccharification tanks and then heating to stop the enzymes
- Operating filter presses, filtering and decolouring sugar liquor with activated carbon and removing inorganic ions with ion exchange columns
- Concentrating purified sugar liquor into liquid sugar products with multiple effect evaporators
- Operating isomerisation columns to make high fructose syrup by decolouring, ion exchange and concentrating, then extracting fructose with chromatography equipment
- Operating crystallisers, centrifuges and flash or spray dryers to crystallise, separate and dry sugar
- Operating equipment to weigh, pack and label starch, starch sugars and by products
- Cleaning, disinfecting and sterilising production equipment
