How to become one

Businesses that rent out or sell assistive equipment as a designated home service under long-term care insurance must have at least two assistive equipment advisers at each office. To become an assistive equipment adviser you must take the designated assistive equipment adviser course run by a training provider approved by the prefectural governor and complete its 50-hour curriculum. However, public health nurses, registered nurses, assistant nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, certified social workers, certified care workers and prosthetists and orthotists can do the work without taking the course. Staff at long-term care facilities and home helpers often take the course to help in their own work.
