How to become a Data Scientist
Analyses large amounts of stored data (big data) to develop new products and services and transform how organisations work.
Main tasks
- Interviewing the person in charge of the area being analysed (or the client, for another company) and setting the goals of the analysis
- Interviewing data staff to understand the data to be analysed
- Processing data and building models (the best statistical model)
- Testing whether the model works once it is built
- Judging whether the model also works on new data
- Putting the model into service as a feature if it works
- Repeating data analysis and modelling
- Collecting data from organisations' daily and monthly reports
- Meeting other data engineers and product development teams
- Planning and developing systems
- Managing and running systems
- Proposing data analysis platforms
- Testing how well data analysis platforms work
- Running courses on statistics and machine learning
- Developing new analysis tools and algorithms
