How to become an IT Solutions Sales Consultant
Also called: Systems sales representative, IT sales representative
Finds out a client's goals and problems, then proposes and sells information systems and IT services to solve them.
Main tasks
- Investigating and understanding a client's business problems and preparing materials proposing an information system
- Understanding the system and budget a client has in mind and drawing up a proposal that reflects them
- Writing and submitting an outline design of a system suited to the client's business
- Working out costs and setting the price when proposing a system
- Presenting quotes and signing contracts
- Adjusting system specifications to suit the client's wishes and budget
- Judging the computer capacity and processing power needed for the client's work and data, and choosing suitable equipment
- Talking with programmers and supporting development work while programs and systems are being built
- Being present when systems are installed and checking they work
- Training clients on how to use systems after installation and answering their questions
- Responding to requests such as maintenance after installation
- Sharing past cases across the business so lessons are captured (knowledge management)
- Writing daily reports and sharing information with the development team and others
- Reviewing sales strategies and plans
