How to become a Plant Factory Cultivation Manager
Also called: Vegetable growing worker (plant factory)
Grows, looks after and harvests vegetables and other crops inside plant factories (indoor farms).
Main tasks
- Sowing vegetable seeds and raising seedlings
- Moving the seedlings to growing shelves once they are big enough
- Checking the levels of nutrient solution and water and topping them up as needed
- Checking how the plants are growing and thinning leaves and fruit to help them grow
- Checking how the plants are growing and harvesting those that are ready
- Sorting harvested vegetables by shape and quality with a sorting machine
- Packing the sorted vegetables into boxes or bags
- Moving the packed vegetables out and sending them off
- Getting rid of pests and diseases
- Regularly checking that light, temperature, humidity and other conditions in the factory stay steady, and acting if they do not
- Regularly checking that the factory's equipment and machines are working properly
- Contacting the maintenance company if there is a problem with the equipment or machines
- Regularly cleaning, disinfecting and drying the growing shelves
- Going to a meeting before work starts to understand and confirm the day's tasks
