How to become a Plant Factory Design and Construction Engineer
Also called: Plant factory construction manager
Designs and builds plant factories (indoor farms) for their own company or at the request of businesses, agricultural corporations and farmers.
How to become one
No particular education or qualification is required to start, but people usually have studied civil engineering, architecture, electrical or mechanical engineering at university or a senmon gakko (vocational college). CAD is used to design factories, so knowledge and experience of it is an advantage. Research is also moving ahead on LEDs as a light source for growing plants, because they allow the wavelength and amount of light to be controlled. In plant factories that use artificial light, there are high hopes for LEDs, which are small, light, use little power and give off little heat, to cut the share of electricity in production costs. Because of this, people with knowledge of and interest in electrical design and installation are increasingly in demand.
