Enrolled nurses care for patients in hospitals, nursing homes and other health centres. They work under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Main tasks
- Assist registered nurses to give treatment
- Give patients medication
- Apply bandages, dressings and splints
- Help patients with hygiene and daily living
- Teach patients, caregivers and whānau to manage illnesses
- Maintain a clean work place
- Give physical and emotional support to patients
- Educate the public on health topics
How to become one
You need a qualification to become an enrolled nurse. You need NCEA Level 3 to do the study or training for this job. Required: a New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing (Level 5); an Annual Practising Certificate; to pass a police check. Other requirements: to pass a medical assessment and drug test; a driver licence. Registration body: Nursing Council of New Zealand.
