How to become an Auditor

Auditor (accounting) plans and conducts audit of accounts, bookkeeping of records and financial statements of private persons, enterprises, institutions and governmental organisations. He/she inspects the recording of transactions in daybooks and journals and verifies the transfer of journal entries to ledgers; inspects and verifies negotiable securities and notes receivable and payable. He/she also recommends improvements in accounting procedures or other desirable action.
Main tasks
- Advising on, planning and installing budgetary, accounts controlling and other accounting policies and systems
- Preparing and certifying financial statements for presentation to management, shareholders and statutory or other bodies
- Conducting financial investigations in such matters as suspected fraud, insolvency and bankruptcy
- Auditing accounts and bookkeeping records

- University: Business & Commerce degrees, Offered by 6 universities in Singapore
- Licence or registration: Statutory audits of company accounts may only be done by a public accountant registered with ACRA. Registration needs professional exams, practical experience and membership of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants.
