Garment and related patternmakers and cutters make patterns for, mark out and cut clothing, hats, gloves and related products from textiles, leather and other materials.
Main tasks
- Draw designs and make patterns for suits, dresses, shirts, blouses, gloves, hats and other garments
- Trace pattern outlines on cloth and leather for cutting
- Cut material along pattern lines to make garments, gloves and related articles
- Make patterns for, mark out and cut related products such as upholstered articles, canvas goods and umbrellas
- Draw master patterns in a range of sizes for ready-to-wear clothing using charts, drafting instruments, computers or grading equipment
- Mark main designs and cutting patterns on fabric
- Cut fabric or fur for making garments and other fur articles
