Miners and quarriers operate machinery and equipment to excavate, drill and extract solid minerals from surface, underground and underwater mines and quarries.
Main tasks
- Position and operate underground and surface mining equipment, including mining, cutting and conveying equipment
- Set up and operate drilling equipment in underground and surface mines and quarries
- Operate machinery and use tools to remove loose rock, ore, coal and other material and install supports
- Operate machinery to cut new shafts, tunnels, vents and ore faces
- Operate pumps and related auxiliary equipment to remove air, water and mud
