Official title: Well Drillers and Related Workers
Well drillers and related workers install and operate drilling equipment and drill oil and natural gas wells.
Main tasks
- Dismantle, move and assemble drilling rigs and auxiliary equipment
- Assemble and dismantle drill pipe, casing and drill bits, and replace faulty equipment
- Run drill pipe and casing up and down the well, adjust well pressure and control tool speed
- Prepare drilling fluid and check pump operation to ensure fluid circulates properly through the drill pipe
- Monitor gauges and other indicators to detect faults and abnormal conditions in the well and decide whether bits or equipment need changing
