- Preserve the traditions, rules and teachings of the religion
- Lead religious services and conduct religious rites and ceremonies
- Give guidance on religious faith based on the religion's rules and teachings, and advise on religious questions
- Spread the religion's teachings within and beyond the community and organise missionary activities
