Researches, analyses and evaluates the requirements for existing or new software applications and operating systems, and designs, develops and maintains software, or writes and maintains application code to technical instructions and specifications.

Main tasks

Research and evaluate software and operating system requirements, and design and develop computer software systems
Evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, modify or improve existing software, and adapt software to new hardware or interfaces
Evaluate, develop, upgrade and document maintenance procedures for operating systems, communications environments and application software; consult clients on software maintenance
Write and maintain code to technical instructions and specifications that meet quality certification standards
Modify or extend existing programs to work more efficiently or to meet new requirements
