How to become one
No particular education or qualifications are needed to start. Many staff are students, homemakers and others who can work long-term, working part-time or casually. Once hired, you learn the basics of customer service such as greetings, how to use the POS till and the steps for providing each service. Paying attention to the range of goods and keeping the store clean are also important. Next, you learn ordering. The tasks you are given depend on your results, not on whether you are a permanent employee or casual. You may also be put in charge of a shift, managing staff and running the store in place of the manager. With a good track record, some people become store managers. Convenience stores handle everything from food to services, usually about 2,500 to 3,000 items depending on the store's size and location. New products are added every week, so you constantly need new product knowledge. Through selling, ordering and other work, you can learn about running a retail business as a whole. You deal with customers all the time, so you need to greet people well and be attentive.
