How to become a Dairy Product Maker

Makes dairy products such as milk, yoghurt, butter and cheese.
Main tasks
- Testing the quality of raw milk from dairy cows
- Homogenising the fat droplets in raw milk, then pasteurising and cooling it
- Filling cartons or bottles with milk
- Blending sugar and flavourings into raw milk to make yoghurt and probiotic drinks
- Adding lactic acid bacteria and fermenting the milk to make yoghurt and probiotic drinks
- Heat-treating milk to kill bacteria
- Adding lactic acid bacteria or enzymes to set raw milk into curd
- Packing the curd into moulds, pressing it and removing water to shape it
- Soaking cheese in brine and leaving it to ferment and mature
- Testing the raw materials for processed cheese
- Blending the cheeses used to make processed cheese
- Heating and melting cheese, then emulsifying and pasteurising it
- Wrapping the pasteurised cheese while it is still hot, then cooling it
- Checking the quality of products
- Separating raw milk into cream and skimmed milk with a separator to make butter
- Pasteurising cream and fermenting it in a temperature-controlled tank to make butter
- Churning cream to remove buttermilk and water, adding salt and packing the butter
- Maintaining and checking production machinery and dealing with any faults
- Washing and sterilising the factory
