- Cleaning the store
- Restocking goods and tidying displays
- Adding point-of-sale signs and arranging displays to boost sales
- Serving customers on the shop floor
- Advising customers and choosing and recommending products
- Explaining to customers how to use, operate and care for products
- Cutting or processing goods to customers' orders, or arranging for this to be done
- Totalling sales, taking cash and giving change or processing card payments
- Wrapping goods
- Delivering goods and arranging delivery
- Keeping sales records
- Working out sale prices and discounts
- Estimating the cost of repairs or adjustments
- Running events and other promotions
- Choosing products to sell in discussion with buyers
