How to become one

After graduating, they join an apparel company or become a designer's assistant to build their skills. Some join fashion boutiques. After joining, experience such as working with many materials and learning how to deal with clients is important. It varies from person to person, but you are recognised as fully skilled a few years after starting work. After that, some go independent or run their own shop. A sense of beauty, a sharp sense of colour and strong shaping skills are essential. You also need good hand skills, a love of making things, the ability to gather information on what consumers want, and a feel for what is coming next.
