How to become a Customs and Border Inspector
Official title: Customs and Border Inspectors
Enforces government regulations at customs points and borders, inspecting goods, people, luggage and documents.
Main tasks
- Patrol borders and territorial waters to prevent illegal entry and exit and the smuggling of money, goods or people
- Check travellers' luggage, goods and documents to make sure they comply with regulations
- Inspect imported and exported goods and confirm that duties and fees have been paid
- Detain people entering or leaving illegally and seize prohibited or undeclared goods
- Coordinate and work with other agencies on enforcement, deportation and prosecution
