Investigates crimes, gathers evidence and arrests suspects.
Main tasks
- Gather information on planned or committed crimes to prevent crime or identify suspects
- Obtain or confirm evidence by examining clues and physical evidence at crime scenes, interviewing witnesses and suspects, and analysing documents and computer files, and make arrests
- Analyse evidence to solve cases, and identify criminal conduct and gather material for court cases
- Give evidence in court or report on investigations and their results to senior officers
