How to become a Geologist or Geophysicist
Official title: Geologists and Geophysicists
Researches geological and geophysical theory and develops and improves ways of applying it.
Main tasks
- Research, develop or improve geological and geophysical theories and methods
- Study the composition and structure of the Earth's crust, or examine rocks and minerals, to trace how the Earth formed and life evolved
- Study and measure earthquakes, gravity, magnetism, volcanoes, glaciers and other phenomena that change the Earth's crust, and apply geology to solve civil engineering problems
- Study and measure light and sound in the atmosphere, and measure the physical properties of the oceans and atmosphere and how they interact, such as heat exchange
- Use seismic, gravity and electrical methods to map the location of oil, natural gas and groundwater, and prepare maps, charts and geological reports

- University department: Science degrees, Offered by 57 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a professional engineering geologist you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 應用地質技師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 4.
