Official title: Glass Makers, Cutters, Grinders and Finishers
Glass makers, cutters, grinders and finishers blow, mould, press and roll molten glass, cut, grind and polish glass and glass products, and shape molten glass to designs.
Main tasks
- Grind and polish glass items or components using belt sanders or polishing wheels to correct defects or prepare surfaces for finishing, and grind and polish mirror edges
- Position or draw designs on glass, measure dimensions and mark cutting lines, and cut glass along marked outlines or designs using glass cutting tools
- Set up, operate and adjust computerised or automated glass cutting equipment
- Trace full-size designs onto paper patterns with a stylus and transfer them to each coloured glass piece
- Shape heated molten glass by blowing and bending
