Official title: Jewellery and Precious-metal Workers
Jewellery and precious metal workers make, adjust and repair jewellery and precious metal ornaments, including cutting and setting gems, engraving designs on precious metal articles, and cutting and polishing industrial diamonds.
Main tasks
- Make jewellery and other precious metal articles by hand
- Repair, reshape and restyle jewellery or precious metal articles according to designs or instructions
- Make jewellery such as rings, necklaces, bangles, brooches and bracelets from gold, silver, platinum, precious or semi-precious stones
- Engrave or emboss lettering, designs or decorative lines on jewellery and precious metal articles
- Cut, polish and set gemstones
- Examine the surface and internal structure of gems using polariscopes, refractometers, microscopes and other optical instruments to identify cracks, flaws or factors affecting value
