How to become a Product Grader or Tester
Official title: Product Graders and Testers (Except Foods and Beverages)
Product graders and testers (excluding food and beverages) inspect, test, sort, sample and weigh raw materials, components and non-food products being made or sold to ensure they meet quality standards, identify defective, worn and non-conforming products, and grade and sort them by quality.
Main tasks
- Inspect and test products, components and materials against specifications and standards
- Analyse and interpret blueprints, data, manuals and other material to determine specifications and inspection and testing procedures
- Record inspection or test data such as weight, temperature, grade, moisture content and quantities inspected or graded
- Measure product dimensions using instruments such as rulers, callipers, gauges or micrometers
- Analyse and calculate test data and determine test results where needed
