How to become an Underwater Diver
Official title: Underwater Divers
Divers wear diving equipment to inspect, install, repair and remove equipment and structures underwater, conduct tests or experiments, place explosives, photograph structures or marine life, or search for missing people and objects.
Main tasks
- Build and repair bridges, wharves and sea walls underwater
- Inspect hulls and underwater equipment for damage and carry out minor repairs
- Report on the condition of wrecks underwater, remove obstructions or drill rock in preparation for blasting
- Search for bodies of victims after maritime accidents
- Take safety precautions such as monitoring dive time and depth
- Communicate with surface crew underwater using signal lines or telephones
