How to become an Audiologist or Speech Therapist
Official title: Audiologists and Speech Therapists
Assesses and treats hearing, communication and swallowing disorders caused by illness or injury.
Main tasks
- Assess and treat disorders of articulation, fluency, voice and resonance, language comprehension and expression, swallowing, and delayed language development
- Test hearing or speech and language using special tools or equipment, interpret results and record them in detail in medical records to decide on treatment
- Prescribe suitable aids for hearing loss, speech disorders and related sensory and nerve damage, and show patients how to use them
- Advise on hearing protection and communication

- University department: Allied Health degrees, Offered by 44 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a audiologist you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 聽力師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 38.
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a speech therapist you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 語言治療師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 37.
