How to become a Physiotherapist
Official title: Physiotherapists
Plans and evaluates physiotherapy programmes and uses a range of physical therapy techniques and equipment to improve or restore body function, increase mobility and relieve pain.
Main tasks
- Draw up and evaluate the content and goals of physiotherapy
- Test the function of patients' muscles, nerves and joints to assess the cause and extent of their condition
- Set treatment goals and design physiotherapy programmes, such as improving circulation, building muscle strength, improving heart and lung function, restoring joint movement, and improving balance and coordination
- Give physical therapy using cold, heat, light, electricity, water, ultrasound and exercise
- Train and instruct patients in the use of artificial limbs, wheelchairs, walking frames and other aids, and guide patients and families in continuing treatment at home
Ways in
- University department: Allied Health degrees, Offered by 44 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a physiotherapist you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 物理治療師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 22.
