How to become an Industrial and Production Engineer
Official title: Industrial and Production Engineers
Researches, designs and integrates industrial production processes, and oversees the installation, operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
Main tasks
- Study how staff, machinery, materials and energy are allocated in production, and set and control production plans
- Analyse labour efficiency, facility layout, production schedules and costs, and plan production specifications, materials, pipework and machinery for the best use of staff and equipment
- Set standard operating procedures based on engineering principles and safety rules
- Work out the best production process for a product and set manufacturing procedures and standards
- Check the set-up of production machinery and equipment, and direct plant and equipment maintenance
- Advise on production methods, techniques and equipment
Ways in
- University department: Engineering degrees, Offered by 93 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a professional industrial engineer you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 工業工程技師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 18.
