How to become a Mining Engineer, Metallurgist or Related Professional
Official title: Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Related Professionals
Plans and designs the extraction of ores, water, oil, gas and other minerals, or researches and develops new alloys and other materials and products.
Main tasks
- Decide extraction sites, mining methods and the type of machinery to use, and assess whether a mining plan will be profitable
- Decide drilling sites, design control methods for water, oil or gas wells, and plan storage, initial processing and transport
- Set safety standards, procedures and first aid facilities for mining operations
- Research and develop methods of extracting metals from ores, and advise on their use
- Study the properties of metals and alloys, develop new alloys, and advise on methods of manufacturing and processing metals and alloys
Ways in
- University department: Engineering degrees, Offered by 93 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a professional mining or metallurgical engineer you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 採礦工程技師、冶金工程技師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 4.
