How to become a Mechanical Engineer

Researches, designs, directs and advises on machinery and on industrial plant and equipment.
Main tasks
- Advise on and design machinery and tools for manufacturing, mining, construction, agriculture and other industries
- Advise on and design the bodies, hulls, airframes and other mechanical parts of ships, aircraft and motor vehicles
- Advise on and design the non-electronic parts of computers, cameras and projectors
- Set control standards and procedures to make sure machinery, industrial plant, equipment and systems run efficiently and safely

- University department: Engineering degrees, Offered by 93 universities in Taiwan
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a professional mechanical or aeronautical engineer you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 機械工程技師、航空工程技師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 4.
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a professional naval architect you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 造船工程技師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 10.
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a professional refrigeration and air-conditioning engineer you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 冷凍空調工程技師 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 18.
