How to become a Civil Engineering Technician
Official title: Civil Engineering Technicians
Assists in planning and carrying out building and civil engineering projects.
Main tasks
- Provide technical help with engineering surveys and prepare survey reports
- Check design specifications and materials standards on behalf of architects
- Apply building and civil engineering knowledge and experience to help find and solve practical problems
- Inspect industrial plants, hotels, cinemas and other buildings and structures and their fire equipment to detect fire hazards
- Recommend fire detection and sprinkler systems, and the materials and conveyance equipment used in building construction

- Technical college: Technical and vocational college programme. Universities of science and technology and junior colleges run departments in related fields: building and civil engineering (0732). Departments in academic year 114 (2025-26): four-year technical bachelor's (四技) 20, two-year technical bachelor's (二技) 9, five-year junior college (五專) 4, two-year junior college (二專) 1. Fields matched to the occupation by Peernovo.; Technician certificate: Surveying. National technician skill test (技術士技能檢定) run by the Workforce Development Agency, trade 042 測量. Tested at grade B (乙級), grade C (丙級). Peernovo links this trade to the occupation.
- Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a fire safety equipment technician you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 消防設備士 and hold the certificate. Listed in the annex to article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Professional and Technical Examinations Act, item 23.
