Official title: Mechanical Engineering Technicians
Carries out technical work assisting in the design, development, manufacture, building, installation and maintenance of mechanical plant and equipment.
Main tasks
- Assist in research and development of machine tools, engines, vehicles, aircraft, heating, cooling and ventilation systems and other mechanical plant and equipment
- Estimate the quantity and cost of materials and labour needed for manufacture and installation
- Provide technical supervision of the manufacture, installation and maintenance of mechanical plant and equipment
- Apply mechanical engineering knowledge and experience to help find and solve practical problems
- Develop and oversee safety standards and procedures for maritime work involving docks, ship equipment and cargo

Universities of science and technology and junior colleges run departments in related fields: mechanical engineering (0715); motor vehicles, ships and aircraft (0716). Departments in academic year 114 (2025-26): four-year technical bachelor's (四技) 70, two-year technical bachelor's (二技) 21, five-year junior college (五專) 13, two-year junior college (二專) 9. Fields matched to the occupation by Peernovo.; Technician certificate: Mechatronics. National technician skill test (技術士技能檢定) run by the Workforce Development Agency, trade 170 機電整合. - Licence (national exam): Regulated profession. To practise as a ship surveyor you must pass the national Professional and Technical Examination (專門職業及技術人員考試) for 驗船師 and hold the certificate.
